The second season really brought the "mythology" of the series into full focus. The storyline of Scully's abduction helped fuel the series into directions away from just "Monster-of-the-Week"- or "Latest UFO case"- type episodes. It brought the conspiracy into more light and the growing bond between Mulder and Scully was much more evident.
